The day after we brought Oliver home from the hospital, he got his first bath. Of course, it was more of a wipe down with a warm washcloth than anything since his umbilical cord has not fallen off yet. Surprisingly, he really didn't seem to mind the bath.
A collection of stories to chronicle the life of our first bundle of joy, from the very beginning.

A Visit from PawPaw
Last weekend, my dad flew in from Georgia to meet Mr. Oliver. We spent a couple of days just hanging around the house and visiting. It was great to have him here and to be able to introduce him to his newest grandchild.

Oliver's Homecoming
After spending a week in the hospital, we were more than ready to bring our bundle of joy home.
Here he is getting all bundled up in his carseat. Of course, he wasn't phased one bit by it.
Our mad Russian, wearing his hat from Grandpa K. I think it will fit better this fall/winter!

Happy Birthday, Baby K!
Happy Birthday, Oliver Thomas!
I went to the hospital on Monday night for the Cervidil and had to spend the night. The next morning, they started the Pitocin and broke my water. Unfortunately, the Cervidil and Pitocin were not able to do their jobs. I only dilated to 5 cm, and as soon as the Pitocin was turned off (after being increased 4 times to its maximum dosage), the contractions completely stopped. Around 9:00, we made the decision to do the C-section.
Here we are, after 14 long hours of very non-productive labor, suiting up for surgery.
After much drama (and during a horrible storm, I might add...I could hear the tornado sirens going off on the radio in the OR during the C-section!), Baby K finally decided to arrive on Tuesday, April 19 at 9:54 P.M. He weighed in at a whopping 9 lbs., 4 oz. and was 21 1/4 inches long! Whew! No wonder he had to be delivered by C-section.
Oliver had to be intibated immediately following his birth because he had swallowed some meconium. Fortunately, the neonatalogist was able to get all of it suctioned out of his mouth and stomach before it could do any harm. After several tense minutes, I was finally able to hear him cry! Unfortunately, at that point, I was still unsure as to whether I had delivered a boy or girl. Since everyone nowadays finds out the gender of the baby beforehand, my doctor forgot to announce it to us. I finally heard someone in the OR say "him" so I knew it was a boy...ha!

Doctor's Appointment-Week 41
Don and I had what was to be our last prenatal appointment this afternoon. They did a non-stress test to check up on Baby K and then we saw the doctor. Baby K's heartrate was mainly in the 150s and 160s during the 30 minute test, and he/she was VERY active. The test also showed not a single contraction :)
By sheer stroke of luck, we got to see my doctor instead of the doctor we were supposed to see (whom I am not a big fan of). He confirmed that I am still 0 cm dilated and even checked again on my due date (yes, it really was April 8). Since the NST showed that Baby K is doing just fine, he agreed to let me keep going until the beginning of next week.
We decided that, unless Baby K decides to make an appearance earlier, I am going in on Monday afternoon to be induced. They will do Cervadil on Monday night and start Pitocin on Tuesday morning. If all goes well, Baby K will be here by Tuesday night, and my doctor will get to deliver the baby.
All that's left now is figuring out what in the world I'm going to do for the next 4 days to keep from going out of my mind!

Doctor's Appointment-Week 40
Today, Baby K is due. Unfortunately, he/she does not seem to have gotten the memo.
I went to the doctor today and got some good news and some bad news. The good news is that my blood pressure is elevated and I'm measuring smaller because Baby K's head has dropped even further. The bad news is that I am still not dilated...40 weeks pregnant and 0 cm dilated. So, it looks as though I am going to need my water to break in order to go into labor and avoid being induced. My doctor has agreed to let me hold out a bit longer since I really do not want to be induced.
If Baby K doesn't make an appearance in the next few days, I will go back next Thursday for a non-stress test. Basically, they will listen to Baby K's heartrate and monitor any contractions I may be having for a half hour. If everything seems to be fine, they will let me go over the weekend. That said, I will not go past 41 1/2 weeks. At that point, they will induce me.
Send up a prayer that Baby K decides to come on his/her own and that inducing me will be unnecessary. I'm also saying a little prayer that something happens this weekend, as one of my favorite doctors is on call. I'll keep you posted!

Week 38
We forgot to take a picture this past week so I thought it would be fun to re-post the very first belly pic I posted. I was somewhere around 8 weeks pregnant. Oh my, how things have changed...by 38 pounds, to be exact!
This week has really been more of the same. I'm tired but I can't sleep, I don't eat much anymore since I'm kind of out of room and pretty much everything I do eat or drink gives me heartburn. It gets pretty uncomfortable to move around a lot, but I've been trying to take Hoosier on a walk or two everyday since I'm still on spring break. However, that will be changing come Monday...I will be returning to work since Baby K has decided to not make an appearance yet.
Overall, Don and I have been doing our best to enjoy our final few days (weeks?) together as a couple before our lives drastically change. We've had a few nice dinners out and have spent a lot of time relaxing together at home, making final preparations for Baby K. However, as much as I'm enjoying this time, I am definitely ready for Baby K's arrival!
